Walleye Spectacular!

Walleye Fishing

What is the most crucial part of a successful Walleye fishing trip, at least if you want to enjoy a delicious shore lunch (ie. actually catch some Walleye)?

That would be the right bait.

The favourite food of Walleye is live bait, predominantly minnows, and jigging with live bait is the most successful walleye fishing technique – with a little practice. The time of year however, is a big factor in which bait you should be fishing with.

Spring Walleye Fishing

The best bet in early spring is trolling, so bring minnows to put on a walleye jig, spinner jig, or split-shot lures. Pack a variety of walleye tackle  and a short rod and reel to be ready for a variety of contitions.

Summer Walleye Fishing

As water temperatures warm in late spring and early summer in Canada, walleye fishing changes to favor worms and leeches for live bait.  Some walleye fishing charters recommend crankbaits such as Shad Raps, Wally Divers, or Redfins if you prefer artificial lures.
