Ontario Walleye Fishing

Walleye are the most popular game fish in Northern Ontario.

Due to the much improved fishing regulations concerning possession and size limits, Ontario walleye fishing has flourished over the past decade. This unique fishing country with countless inter-connecting lakes and rivers has a healthy population of walleye with an average size of 1 to 3 pounds, although each year many in the 5 – 12 pound range are caught.

Trophy Ontario Walleye

Some lakes with transparent, clear colored water normally require better walleye fishing techniques, but its rewards are some very large fish. Bigger Lakes produce most of the trophy walleye caught by walleye anglers in Ontario. Every year Ontario produces walleye up to 32 inches; occasionally the odd monster walleye are caught. The Ontario Record walleye is over 34 inches and over 16 pounds! Catching these trophy walleye requires patience, skill, good walleye tackle, live bait – and some luck!

Dawn and Dusk Fishing

Sunrise and sunset are the best times to fish Pickerel, where it’s common to catch 15 – 40 walleye during these periods. Of course some days you have to work for a limit and other times it’s realistic for the boat to catch a hundred fish. Often, with little fishing experience, or with an experienced fishing guide out on the lake on a summer evening walleye bite, the action is non-stop!
