Thread kernels of corn onto a hook. It’s an inexpensive lure you won’t cry about losing.

No artificial lure can compete with live bait.

I live in WI and fish the Mississippi at pool 9 dam. There they like the heavy streamline jig heads with a flash tail tipped with a minnow. I was out last week and a 3/4 oz sliding weight with a bead and about 16 inches down a medium size hook with a minnow hooked behind the dorsal fin. I have not had any real experience other than that myself.
If you have any report on fishing in your area, after you go out let everyone know at.

minnows are probably the best however i have had success with worms and a 5 of diamonds lure.

I live in Wisconsin and in these rivers during that late fall run I wack the shit out of them. If you like minnows you’ll love it..Use a Wolf river rig, 8inch drop on 1/2 oz bell sinker, 3foot hook lead with as small a treble as you can get away with (I use a #12 mustad round bend with lake shiner). Cast at a 45 degree angle downstream, let sinker hit bottom, jerk like youre setting the hook, reel up half the slack, pause 1-2 seconds, now snap it again..repeat…repeat youre sinker will only be on bottom for a second or two at the most. Sometimes wally will hit it so fast it will bring back a flick on youre pause but most of the time you will simply set the hook into the fish when you snap it!!! Use a longer pause 2-3-4 seconds between snaps when water gets cold (mid low 30’s) If you can follow what I’m sayin you’ll be writting me back this fall freaking out……

Try Herring they are a little larger and shinier than minnows. They work well here on the east coast. Give it a shot and hope to see you in the record books.
