When I fish Lake Huron or Saginaw Bay I listen to the radio and listen to what everyone is using for bait. I think everyone does this. Then change bait accordingly.
I might have as many as eight lines out, some with plastic, crawlers and spoons, whatever one starts getting hits, I change. I do the same for water depth, behind the boat, etc.
Fishing is sometimes work. You have to keep changing bait, depth, length, colors, until you get hits.
What worked yesterday, or for that matter, five minutes ago, might not work now.

fatheads/shiners, night crawlers are the most common and effective live baits for walley today. as for soft bait, try motor oil, black, purple, pearl white, and yellow. chartreuse is a good all around soft bait it is a lime green color. for hard baits i have a lure that looks so convincingly like a minnow, that my mom thought i dropped a minnow in my tackle box and it died there. pretty much anything that imitates a big minnow.
walleye love creek chubs. especially about 3-5 inches long if you have at least a half dozen of those you are in good shape.

live in western PA, and damn proud of it

I like using 1/4 oz lead head jigs, with a 2″ Mr. Twister, usually white. Fish drop offs in about 15′-30′ of water. Just drift, and bounce the jig. Early mornings, or near dark are usually good.

If I’m bottom fishing, I will use a leech mainly. Weather and temp makes for a big difference in what they eat.
